Narragansett Beer Ad About 1931, Robert Haffenreffer, Jr. and his brother Theodore came to Narragansett Brewing Company to help their father, Robert Haffenreffer Sr. liven up the company. As it happens, both the younger Haffenreffers had attended college with a budding artist, Theodore Geisel, soon to be the famous Dr.Suess. Robert Haffenreffer, Jr. was also a fan of cigar store Indians, so Dr. Suess Chief 'Gansett was a natural! The ad shown here is from WWII as Narragansett was proudly served at forts throughout Boston Harbor and here at Fort Warren on Georges Island.
