Vintage Friday: Gansett Tap

From Mr. Goulet in New Hampshire.

This is a photo of the beer tap on my guy-fridge in the garage. This beer tap was part of the original bar equipment at the Wonder Bar in Bristol, RI (now Gillary’s, 198 Thames St.) during the 1920’s. It was "acquired" by my now deceased grandfather when he was a teenager living on Prudence Island.

Returning to Prudence Island after serving as a Marine in the Pacific during WWII, he built a cottage on Chase Ave which included a garage/bar. This bar had Gansett on tap, and was the sight of many deboutcherous outings. This tap served dutifully during this period, and was eventually survived by my father until a few months ago when it was relocated to Canaan, New Hampshire.

The guy-fridge is in the process of being covered by stickers, and most certainly needs some Gansett love...

I thought that I would also include a photo of my Grandfather... the original acquirer of the tap. As you can see, he's a bit of an ornery cuss, and a lifelong lover of Gansett. He was born on (and died on) Prudence Island... in fact, his old bar is still in existence! Although it needs some polish, it is chock full of vintage Gansett memorabilia (including a complete wall of vintage Gansett cans used for hardware storage).
