Now that baseball season is in full swing, we wanted to share a little bit about our long history with the Boston Red Sox. In 1944, ‘Gansett Beer made history by becoming the first alcohol company to officially sponsor a sports team. This was the beginning of a 32 year partnership with the Boston Red Sox. Along with this, we even had our own radio network where we broadcasted the games.
The 1950’s were huge for ‘Gansett, starting with the legendary sports announcer, Curt Gowdy as he became the voice of the RedSox in 1951. All the listeners heard his famous calls of “Hi Neighbor, Have a ‘Gansett!” for the next 15 years.
As the Red Sox won the pennant in 1967, there is a legendary photo of Carl Yastrzemski celebrating afterwards with a ‘Gansett. This year was huge for the RedSox, as they wouldn’t break the curse until 2004.
Unfortunately the epic partnership between ‘Gansett and the Red Sox came to an end in 1975, after ‘Gansett was purchased by Falstaff Brewing Corporation. These years are an important part of our history and Red Sox history, and ‘Gansett beer is still a favorite among many Red Sox fans!
You can now enjoy an ice cold 'Gansett in Fenway and many bars and restaurants around the ballpark - Hi Neighbor, Have a 'Gansett!
