Hi Neighbor! Here's what a package store looked in the 1950's. No, those aren't growlers. They're GIQ's of both Narragansett Lager and Ale. The bottom row is singles of 12oz bottles with the words, "For Every Taste" across the top. The shop keep himself is proudly standing on the side of his glorious display.

What ever happened to Croft Ale? Also, Hanley’s Ale? They were quite popular in the 50s and early 60s. I think they were brewed in Providence.
I remember the ‘Gansett GIQs as a teenager. We’d hang outside the liquor store on a warm summer night in Olneyville (Providence) and wait for a drunk to enter. We’d offer to buy his beer if he’d get us a few GIQs. Usually it worked, until some drunks got the idea of taking our money, buying the beer, then disappearing out the back door of the store. After that we had to post a guard on the back door.
