Narragansett Brewing Company Honors 1962 Hi Neighbor Girl
On Wednesday, December 5th, representatives of the press, radio and TV; Narragansett distributors; trade association representatives; and special guests attended the 1962 Hi Neighbor Festival Banquet at the Sheraton-Kimball in Springfield.
On behalf of the Narragansett Brewing Company, two Pioneer Valley distributors - Al Jacobsohn of A & J Sales Co., Springfield and Douglas Abercrombieof Luey & Abercrombie, Inc., Greenfield - presented a check for $1,000 to the happy Anita Merriam of Springfield. The charming Miss Merriam had just been named Hi Neighbor Girl of 1962. They also presented each of the other Hi Neighbor Girls - Madeleine Kanski of Springfield, Janet Heffron of Holyoke, Vivian Pelland of Willimansett and Penny Sojka of Turner Falls - with beautiful engraved medallion bracelets.
Irehne Hennessy, Hi Neighbor Red Sox Girl and Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening, narrated a fashion show featuring all of the lovely Hi Neighbor Girls in a bevy of sport, late daytime and evening clothes.
The evening's keynote is contained in a statement made by the brewery several years ago at the beginning of the Hi Neighbor
Festival:
"The Narragansett Brewing Company is sponsoring a program of awards, special events and contest to promote better neighborliness here in Springfield, Holyoke, Greenfield area - and to introduce you to the neighborly beer with straight-from-the-barrel taste."
