Hi Neighbor Heritage: ‘Gansett’s Vintage Christmas Ads

Hi Neighbor! Here are some vintage Christmas Greetings from the Narragansett Brewing Company. This first one was originally published on December 25, 1979 in The Phoenix Holiday Guide, the text reads:

Open up the holiday season with a ‘Gansett lager beer or a Ballantine Ale. Or both if you’re expecting friends. And speaking of friends, it’s loyal friends like you who have made Narragansett Lager Beer and Ballantine Ale traditional New England favorites. And that’s a tradition we’ve been carrying on longer than any other New England brewery, thanks to you. So, as the old year comes to a close, be sure to open the New Year with our best Narragansett Lager Beer and Ballantine Ale.

This one most likely appeared in local newspapers at the turn of the 20th century. We at Narragansett beer would like wish you and your loved ones a happy and safe Holiday Season. Gansett is best enjoyed in good company of friends and family. But please remember to drink responsibly and designate a driver.

This last one holds some special meaning since it appeared in the December 23, 1945 issue of The Boston Herald. What a remarkable advertisement for Narragansett Brewing Company. The painting is titled, “On The Post Road,” and was created by artist, Harold Breut. Little is known about the artist, but we do know that this Christmas was the first after the end of World War II. At that time more than ever, Christmas truly meant “Peace At Last” for all. Soldiers came home to their families and celebrated not only the birth of Jesus Christ, but being home for the holidays with loved ones.
