Newport, Rhode Island, the Scion Core Cup 2010 on-call surf contest and the regions only Pro Am surf contest went off this past Saturday for the third straight year. 34 surfers from Maine, Rhode Island, Mass and New Hampshire battled each other and the head high waves at second beach in Middletown, RI. With light off shore winds and consistent, improving conditions all the competitors got their fair share of waves and the contest proved itself as the best surf contest in New England.

Nico Evans from Maine took 1st place $1800
Dillon Murphy from the Cape took 2nd place $1200
Lyle McCutcheon-Shour from the Cape took 3rd place $800

In an effort to make a deeper connection within the surf culture, Scion, Toyota’s brand for the youth market, stepped up once again alongside co-sponsors Island Surf and Sports and Oakley with sponsorship dollars to make this unique contest happen. Event director and founder, Skip Winter said,"Thanks to our sponsors, mother nature of course, a well trained, dedicated staff and the regions best surfers, we’ve been able to bring an amazing event to New England for three years in a row. Quite honestly, I can’t believe it, but I am stoked!"
