Band Of The Week: Root Glen
Root Glen is a New Jersey based groove-rock band specializing in upbeat, funk-tinged rock songs. The band is composed of guitarist Ross Griswold, drummer Eric Blank, singer/guitarist David Moroney, and bassist Andres Gonzalez. Over the course of the past year the band released 4 eponymous, seasonally-themed EPs, the most recent of which debuted just days ago on Friday July 13th. All four are available as free digital downloads on rootglen.bandcamp.com, and hard copies are available at shows. Root Glen’s hallmark is its live show, which continues to get audience members (familiar with the band or not) on their feet and dancing. The band has been touring in the northeast US for the past two years, and fell in love with 'Gansett on one of several stops in Newport last summer, opening up for Newport natives Veja Du. The band will be starting their northeast tour this week- including a FREE SHOW right here in Providence on Tuesday, July 24th! The freer we are with their composition, the more genuine they are in the end. Some of our best parts seem to occur spontaneously- we latch on to a part that one band member played, often subconsciously, and say 'hey do that again.' If its something we can all feel, it becomes a song." For more information and the rest of their summer schedule, check out the band's website at rootglen.com .
