When any Rhode Islander moves away it seems they always long for a piece of Rhody. So when Rhode Islander, Sarah Potenza Crossman moved to Chicago and formed her alt-country/blues band, Sarah & The Tall Boys, she knew she wanted to stay true to her roots as any musician would. Writing tunes like Jonesin' For Little Rhody and taking photos with none other than Gansett Tall Boys in hand, we just had to meet this gal and her guys. Being a DIY band like most, extensive touring isn't really on their roster, but they do make it back to RI every so often. Sarah's husband and bassist, Ian Crossman, is also a Rhode Islander, so both have family here. In fact the photo session for their second record A Lifetime Worth Of Sin was shot in a Chicago hotel. Sarah's father was gracious enough to ship out a case of Gansett tall boys which added a nice touch of authenticity. We actually met them last year when they were touring on that record when they stopped by for some beer and Gansett gear. They even had their own t-shirts made up using the Gansett tall boy image. Stocked with even more beer, country-blues and soul, they are back touring the Ocean State with great shows this week. Which means you have no excuse to miss them. Their kicking it off with a pre-party for the Rhythm & Roots festival, then they'll on the main stage of the Rhythm & Roots Festival in Ninigret Park along side Steve Earle, Delbert McClinton, and Richard Thompson, and topping it off at Nick-ANee's.
