Once again, Rhode Islanders rule 'The Amazing Race'

The odds are improving that a Rhode Island team will win "The Amazing Race." The CBS reality show started with 11 two-person teams, two of which were Rhode Island teams. Now, after six episodes, six teams remain, two of which are Rhode Island teams.

On Sunday night, for the third episode in a row, Rhode Islanders Louis D. Stravato and Michael Naylor won. And for winning this stage, each of them received a 5-night trip to Cancun, Mexico, adding to their previous winnings of $5,000 gift certificates and 55-inch HD TVs.

Stravato, of Bristol, and Naylor, of Warwick, are both detectives, for the Providence and Newport police departments, respectively.

This leg of the show's race around the world involved seven teams starting in rural France and driving to the city of Reims and finding a clue at a statue of Joan of Arc. From there, the teams drove to a winery and looked for a clue on a bottle among thousands in the basement.

The teams then had to drive to another winery. And this is where many of the teams lost time, getting directions to a store of the winery rather than the winery itself. But the Rhode Island cops happened to ask someone who not only knew the place, but drove them there.

At the second winery, teams had to overcome an obstacle: either build a 15-layer pyramid of glasses and pour a bottle of champagne down it, without it falling; or find a small clue on a cluster of grapes in a 2-acre field.

The cops chose the field, and promptly found their clue.

"If I can find crack in someone's rear end, I can find grapes in a vineyard," Naylor said.

The other Rhode Island team of Daniel and Jordan Pious of Barrington came in fifth place. They are a financial advisor and a strategic consultant, respectively.

The team of Jordan Lloyd of Charlotte, N.C., and Jeff Schroeder of Norridge, Ill., came in last and was eliminated from the race.

There are now six teams remaining in the race, with one team to be eliminated in each of the next five episodes. The teams are vying for the $1 million prize. And the Rhode Island team of Stravato and Naylor are the team to beat.

"We're feeling good now," Naylor said.
