Retro Band Of The Week: Chicago

Chicago

Wait a minute...this doesn't add up. Why is Chicago the retro band this week for 'Gansett you ask? Well we have been around for 120 years and it has to do with that stylish t-shirt. No not Peter Cetera's awesome disco suit. The "Loose Lips Sink Ships" shirt that percussionist Walter Parazaider is wearing. Sure this slogan dates back to the WWII period for Naval yards, but this was also a popular saying among Narragansett beer during the 70's. One of our Facebook fans was so kind enough to post this on our page. According to this fan legendary rock promoter, Skip Chernov produced a series of concerts in Rhode Island that Narragansett beer sponsored called the "Gansett Tribal Rock Festivals" back in 1969 to 1971. Those shirts were made as the promotional tees. Chicago was the first to play at the old Rhode Island Auditorium. It was the first concert in Providence since Mayor Joseph A. Doorley Jr. had banned them because of a riot at the Sly & The Family Stone show. Coincidence? We think not. This photo is from the poster insert of Chicago's 1972 release, Chicago V, which features one of our favorite hits, Saturday In The Park. Great band, awesome record, delicious beer, cool t-shirt, why not have them start our retro band series. Feel free to leave some comments here and let us know what you think.
