What happens when you take a couple musicians from The People’s Republic of Cambridge, put them in a studio, and let them kick out inspired jams that reference The Velvet Underground, Paul McCartney, The Mamas and the Papas, and The Byrds? Well folks, you get Drug Rug. Having been a fan since the release of their first first album in 2007 (yes I have the big cardboard box it came in), it was great to hear their new record,"Paint the Fence Invisible" had finally been released. Staying true to their roots, the band crafts another gem of a record with songs that sound ripe for the next Tarantino flick.

The band is made up of Tommy Allen and Sara Cronin, and their latest has received rave reviews from the likes of Pitchfork, New York Press, Time Out NY, and many others. In keeping things local, I’ll roll with this little ditty from the Boston Phoenix which reads..."This just in: Drug Rug are insanely good."

The band is kicking off a mini Northeast tour, which starts in Brooklyn and ends up in Northampton and a stop at the Middle East Upstairs in-between. The date of the Middle East show is this Friday, 1/15 and yours truly is going to play sponsor with comp’d beer and good times. So if you’re looking for something to do, or need a quick change of plans, come on down to the Middle East and catch one of Boston’s best up and coming groups. In the meantime, check the links below for a couple of free downloads from Drug Rug.
