Vintage: Should We Bring Back The GIQ’s

GIQs

Here’s a great photo of Paul Roy in the early 1950′s at Bourget’s Liquor store in Lawrence, MA. Look at that awesome display of the Giant Imperial Quart containing 20% more lager beer.

I waited till I was 21 to start drinking beer. I remember the talk on the school bus back then about GIQ’s. It was a measure of manhood to drink one. The GIQ (Giant Imperial Quart) was just a tad over 40 ounces and was a great way to get quantity for a low price. I would think the more packageing options one has would increase sales. I wish I could walk in and just buy a six pack of cans for my friends so I can reintroduce them to Gansett. I can’t afford to buy them a 12 pack.

The last Bottle I can find that even looks like a GIQ in my basement is 38.43 ounce bottle.

John, I really believe that was the correct measure of the GIQ. It was a great package in its day but not sure that it would fly as well today.
