New England Started The Christmas Card Tradition

Christmas time is here and with that brings the time honored tradition of sending Christmas Cards to friends and family. Narragansett beer is all about traditions especially in New England. So when we looked up the history of the Christmas Card, we found that this tradition began in New England. Although it origianally dates back to England, a Boston lithographer named Louis Prang brought this tradition to the United States in 1874. The first card was designed by Mrs. O.E. Whitney and modeled after an English card signed by Charles Dickens that Prang brought back from Europe. The first cards were produced for export to England. However, Prang sold his cards in New England the following year and the Chistams Card fever soon became an American ailment. With that said, the 'Gansett Girls also wanted to wish everyone a "Merry X-Mas Neighbor" with the above photo.
