Jerry T. was the youngest Narragansett Brewery Salesman ever to be hired.
It started around 1964…just out of the service, almost 20 years old, Jerry got a job as a salesman at a prestigious men’s suit store in downtown Worcester, MA.

After a year in great sales, wanting to be on the road and call on accounts there was a huge ad in the Worcester Newspaper for Narragansett hiring one rep to be hired for Boston, one for Worcester and one for Western MA. One Pre-requisite was you must have been a college graduate. Jerry overlooked this and continued to go for the interview. When he went to Providence, RI he was going into the parking lot and almost turned back. There where over 200 cars already there in the visitors parking. He went in, waited his turn, and noticed two doors that guys were coming out left and right. He got to sit down with Howard Pike and Pike said,"take the left door and wait for instruction." Two other college grads and he got a call in a week. He was hired and to go in on that Monday. Monday came, Brewery tour, test beer, etc. He was sales for on and off premise in central MA did displays, called on accounts. This was all when 'Gansett sponsored Red Sox and Clients Nichols and May, which was the highest form of Humor back then.

Every one was saying “Hi Neighbor, Have a 'Gansett." It was the largest selling beer. He worked in Worcester, Boston, Providence and Springfield. Got sent to Vermont, had ski resorts, later on transferred to Springfield and Pittsfield, MA. Jerry was then hired as a missionary man and went to 20 bars a day…buying rounds of drinks. Jerry introduced the spin off tops, ring top, test marketed the beer in Poughkeepsie, NY and Worcester, MA. The beer Went in to Poughkeepsie and Worcester, it would sell anywhere.

After awhile Falstaff bought the company and Jerry moved on to other on the road sales. He always remembered 'Gansett was his favorite!

Jerry is still in good shape, he is 66 years old, walks 5 miles a day, and looks younger then he is. He loved the job & loved the 'Gansett.
